Close-Up B1

Close-Up B1 is an online English course for children and teenagers that builds on their language knowledge through interesting real-world topics. The system includes adapted articles and materials inspired by National Geographic, which let students practise the grammar and vocabulary they have learned while discovering more about people, nature, technology and the world around them.

The online lessons combine clear explanations from the teacher, interactive exercises, speaking practice, and work with texts, audio materials and videos. Students discuss different topics, express opinions, argue a position and gradually develop more confident and mature communication in English.

After completing Close-Up B1, students will be able to:

• read and understand adapted texts of around 600 words;
• work with a richer vocabulary and use words in the right context;
• use simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous tenses more confidently;
• recognise and use zero, first, second and third conditional sentences;
• use modal and semi-modal verbs in speech and writing;
• speak more freely on topics such as relationships, extreme situations, ecology, technology, society and everyday life;
• take part in discussions, share opinions and give arguments to support their position;
• write emails, articles, stories, essays, and formal and informal letters, taking into account the purpose, genre and appropriate tenses;
• listen to and extract the essential information from longer audio texts and conversations;
• understand the content and main ideas of educational films and answer questions about them.

Learning through real topics

The system develops not only language skills but also students' general knowledge, critical thinking and curiosity. The topics in the course give children the chance to look beyond the coursebook, discuss important issues and use English as a means of communicating and getting to know the world.
